Model Train Insider was born out of a simple frustration: when I first got into the hobby, there was no single, clear resource that answered all my questions without sending me down a rabbit hole of forum threads and outdated websites.

My name is James Mitchell, and I've been building layouts, collecting locomotives, and tinkering with DCC systems for over 15 years. What started with a basic Bachmann starter set on a sheet of plywood in my garage has grown into a passion that's taken me to train shows across the country, introduced me to an incredible community, and taught me more about patience and precision than I ever expected.

This site exists to do one thing well: help you enjoy model trains without the confusion.
